St. Johnsbury man found dead in Passumpsic River

BARNET — A St. Johnsbury man was found dead in a submerged vehicle in the Passumpsic River on Wednesday.

According to police, there was an active search for a 29-year-old man after family members reported him missing.

Police identified the deceased man as 29-year-old Raymond Labounty III from St Johnsbury.

Police say Labounty’s family found tire tracks leading to the Passumpsic River, near the man’s childhood home on Silo Road in Barnet.

Police found the tire tracks and noticed paint, matching the color of Labounty’s vehicle, on rocks leading to the river.

The police dive team positively identified Labounty in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, which was submerged in about 18 feet of water, according to the report.

Chevy truck stolen from residence in Barnet

BARNET — A 2013 Chevrolet was reported stolen from a residence in Barnet on Sunday.

Police say the theft occurred on Pavillion Lane between 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 5:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Police describe the stolen vehicle, belonging to 62-year-old Joseph Mangiapane, of Barnet, as a brown, 2013 Chevrolet truck with the license plate number EK290.

Man arrested in suspected DUI roll-over crash in Barnet

BARNET — Police arrested a 36-year-old man for a suspected DUI after he flipped his vehicle in the town of Barnet on Tuesday.

Police responded to the single accident at the intersection of Comerford Dam Road and Old Silo Road at around 9:33 p.m.

According to police, Jason Cloutier, 36, of Royalton, flipped and totaled a 2006 Subaru Legacy.

Police say he ran from the wrecked vehicle and eventually exited the woods on his own accord.

He was transported to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital for injuries from the crash then processed for DUI and Careless and Negligent Operation, according to authorities.

Driver spins out, lands on guardrail in Barnet

BARNET — A New Hampshire driver spun out on 1-91 in Barnet resulting in her vehicle landing on top of a guardrail on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the single-vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of 1-91 at approximately 8:45 a.m.

Police identified the driver as Paula Guion, 53 of Monroe, N.H.

According to the report, Guion told police she failed to see a tractor-trailer while merging lanes, slammed on the brakes to avoid the truck, causing her Toyota Camry to spin multiple times.

Police say the vehicle hit the west side guardrail and came to rest on top of it, facing oncoming traffic.

Guion wa snot injured in the crash.

RV fire stops traffic on I-91 north in Barnet

BARNET — A recreational vehicle caught fire and shut down traffic on I-91 Sunday evening.

Police, along with the Barnet Fire Department responded to a report of an RV that was on fire at around 4:15 p.m.

The incident took place at mile marker 119.8 northbound on Interstate 91 in Barnet.

When the fire department arrived, the RV was fully engulfed and traffic on I-91 northbound was temporarily stopped.

After approximately 10 minutes, crews had the fire out and traffic was again flowing in one lane.

Fire crews remained on scene until the vehicle was removed.

The RV was a total loss.

There were no injuries reported, and the owner of the vehicle is listed as Rene Blais, 60, of Ascot Corner, Quebec.
